In brief
The project covers crossings with EU countries and Moldova, with planned improvements to roads, terminals and customs systems.
Ukraine signed a €60 million financing agreement with the European Investment Bank on October 21 for its Western Border Infrastructure project, UNIAN reported, citing Recovery, Infrastructure and Transport Minister Mykola Kalashnyk.
The project envisages upgrades to border crossings with EU countries and Moldova, including access roads, terminals, waiting areas, service facilities and shelters. Customs equipment and software are also to be modernised.
Kalashnyk said the improvements were intended to increase border capacity, shorten waiting times for passengers and freight, and reduce business logistics costs. UNIAN's report did not specify financing terms or a construction timetable, or state that funds had been disbursed.
The minister also identified possible further cooperation with the EIB, including support for Ukrainian Railways, road reconstruction and water infrastructure. He said efforts to attract additional grants and technical assistance were continuing.
