Odesa region restricts civilian access to Black Sea beach areas

A new wartime order replaces June rules that allowed access to designated beaches, with conditional exemptions for military and emergency services.

Authorities in Ukraine's Odesa region have restricted civilian access and vehicle movement in designated Black Sea beach areas under a joint military and regional administration order published on October 5, Ukrainian news outlets reported. UNIAN said it was signed on September 30.

The restrictions cover specified beach zones and associated coastal waters. RBC-Ukraine reported that the order cites threats to life from Russia's armed aggression and replaces June 11 rules that included a list of beaches people could visit under safety conditions.

Military personnel and designated security, law-enforcement and emergency services may enter subject to circumstances and approval from the commandant. Owners and users of affected coastal properties must observe the restrictions in their activities.

Patrols may check identity documents and passes and inspect belongings, vehicles and cargo when necessary, RBC-Ukraine reported.
