Ukraine’s anti-corruption court explains rejection of lawmaker’s agreement

In brief

A court spokeswoman said a proposed 3 million hryvnia payment to a private charity could not automatically count as direct military assistance.

Ukraine’s High Anti-Corruption Court rejected a proposed agreement in lawmaker Oleksandr Kachnyi’s illicit-enrichment case, court spokeswoman Inna Serdiukova said in comments reported by UNIAN on October 8.

The agreement would have required Kachnyi to transfer 3 million hryvnias to support the defence forces through a charitable foundation. Serdiukova said the court considered that a payment to a private foundation could not automatically be equated with direct assistance to the armed forces, because its subsequent use would fall outside the control of the court and the parties to the agreement.

Serdiukova said the ruling had taken legal effect and could not be appealed. UNIAN did not specify the ruling’s date. The report concerns the rejection of the proposed agreement and does not establish Kachnyi’s guilt.
