In brief

The Ukrainian president gave the estimate in his October 12 evening address. Novynarnia did not specify the counting period or provide independent corroboration.

Russian forces near Dobropillia in Ukraine’s Donetsk region are losing about 200 soldiers killed each day, President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an October 12 evening address following a meeting of his military command, Novynarnia reported.

Zelensky said Russian losses had risen in recent months and that many Russian troops were also seriously wounded. The report did not give a wounded tally or specify the period used to calculate daily deaths near Dobropillia, and it offered no independent corroboration of his estimate.

The president said Ukrainian forces were stopping Russian attempts to advance and infiltrate their positions. He also said Russian troops outnumbered Ukrainian forces by six to eight times in some sectors, while describing Ukraine’s frontline position as its strongest in a long time. These were his assessments, rather than independently corroborated findings in Novynarnia’s report.
