In brief
About 30 tanks in Braniewo reportedly cannot perform their intended tasks; Poland's Armament Agency says faults are being addressed with contractors.
About 30 South Korean-built K2 tanks in Poland's 9th Armoured Cavalry Brigade in Braniewo reportedly cannot perform their intended tasks, UNIAN reported on October 22, citing Defence Express. The account traced the information through Defence24 to Radio Zet journalist Mariusz Gierszewski.
UNIAN's report gives conflicting totals for the unit's tanks: 58 in its narrative and 52 in a quotation from Defence Express. It therefore does not establish a consistent basis for calculating the proportion affected, and it did not specify the exact date of the readiness assessment.
Polish Armament Agency spokesman Grzegorz Polak said the tanks' technical readiness was comparable to that of other weapons and that identified problems were being addressed with manufacturers and other contractors.
Defence Express said the brigade's role included covering Poland's border with Russia's Kaliningrad region. The report does not establish the readiness of Poland's entire K2 fleet or the brigade's overall combat capability.
