In brief
Security committee chair Lilian Carp said two guards crossed the border while pursuing a man on the Dniester. Ukraine’s border service previously reported their return.
Moldova sent diplomatic protest notes to Ukraine after two Ukrainian border guards crossed the border while pursuing a man on the Dniester River, parliamentary national security committee chair Lilian Carp said on October 19. Novynarnia reported his remarks, citing European Pravda and Newsmaker.
Carp said the notes were sent to Ukraine’s embassy and other Ukrainian authorities. He described the crossing as a serious violation and said pursuing someone crossing the border illegally did not justify the guards’ actions.
The guards’ detention in Moldova was reported on October 17. Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service said the following day that both had been returned to Ukraine, according to Novynarnia. The report did not include the protest notes or a Ukrainian response to them.
