Russia may narrow cruise missile production to a few types, analyst says

In brief

Pavlo Lakiichuk expects a shift within one or two months as Russia seeks cheaper weapons it can produce in greater numbers.

Russia could concentrate production on one or two cruise missile types, or at most three, within one or two months, security analyst Pavlo Lakiichuk said on Kyiv 24, according to an October 23 report by UNIAN.

Lakiichuk, head of security programmes at the Strategy XXI Centre for Global Studies, said cost, ease of manufacture and effectiveness would shape the choice. Russia would then try to increase production of the selected types, he predicted.

He outlined two possible approaches: localising production in Russia or buying finished products and larger assemblies from China to speed up assembly. These were his assessments of possible options. UNIAN’s report did not specify a confirmed Russian production decision, selected missile types or planned output volumes.
