In brief
The company says a letter of intent has been signed, with the first thousands of drones potentially reaching Ukraine before the end of 2026.
German defence company Quantum Systems says a letter of intent was signed over the weekend for a package of tens of thousands of SPYS interceptor drones for Ukraine. UNIAN, citing Ukrinform, reported the announcement by company vice-president Маттіас Лена at a briefing in Berlin.
SPYS is a joint development with Ukrainian company WIY through Quantum WIY Industries, drawing on experience with the STRILA interceptor in Ukraine. Quantum Systems says SPYS can intercept Russia's jet-powered Geran-4 and Geran-5 drones.
The company plans to expand production using existing STRILA manufacturing capacity. Its vice-president said output could reach several thousand drones a month and the first thousands could be delivered this year. UNIAN's report did not specify the exact quantity, cost or final delivery schedule; the announcement concerns intended deliveries.
Quantum Systems also estimated that Ukraine had intercepted more than 50% of incoming Russian jet-powered drones over recent nights. It attributed that result to several air defence systems, including F-16 fighters and specialist interceptor drones, rather than presenting it as a measure of SPYS performance.
