Rheinmetall reports container-based AERIE counter-drone prototype

In brief

The company says the launcher can hold more than 20 interceptors, with operator demonstrations planned for the fourth quarter of 2026.

Rheinmetall and Australia's Praetorian Aeronautics have developed a prototype of AERIE, a mobile counter-drone system housed in a standard shipping container, RBC-Ukraine reported on October 7, citing the company's press office.

According to the company, the prototype took 12 months to develop from the initial concept. The autonomous launcher is designed to accommodate different interceptor types and can hold more than 20 interceptors.

The demonstration unit uses Praetorian Aeronautics' Arrow interceptor and Hadrian command-and-control system. Both were developed and manufactured in Australia.

Full demonstrations for operators are planned for the fourth quarter of 2026. RBC-Ukraine's report did not specify a demonstration location or a timetable for serial deliveries, and did not give combat-use results.
