In brief
Energy expert Hennadii Riabtsev says some equipment ordered by Ukrenergo in 2024 has still not arrived as Russian attacks strain the grid.
Shortages of replacement equipment could worsen power interruptions after Russian attacks this winter, energy expert Hennadii Riabtsev told UNIAN in comments published on October 19.
He described the Kyiv region as Ukraine’s hardest-hit area for electricity supply outside frontline districts, citing the intensity of attacks. In his assessment, Ukraine still has surplus generation, but damaged transmission lines limit how much electricity reaches consumers.
Riabtsev said some equipment ordered by transmission operator Ukrenergo in 2024 had yet to arrive. He suggested that governments in manufacturing countries might need to help accelerate deliveries, warning that shortages of autotransformers and other components could hamper repairs.
UNIAN’s report did not list the outstanding orders or give confirmed delivery dates. Riabtsev’s comments were a winter risk assessment, rather than an outage schedule for individual addresses.
