Buildings at the Sadyba Niushanik bird rehabilitation centre in Kyiv region’s Vyshhorod district burned down during Russia’s overnight attack on October 7, co-founder Iryna Snopko said, according to RBC-Ukraine.
Snopko said the centre’s bird treatment facility, chicken coop and quail enclosure were destroyed, along with equipment and feed. Birds and a cat were inside, she said. RBC-Ukraine’s report did not specify their number or fate, or give a damage estimate.
The centre cared for injured birds of prey and waterbirds, including storks, swans, owls, hawks and kestrels. Birds unable to return to the wild because of serious injuries stayed permanently, and staff also advised members of the public on rescuing birds.
