In brief

The White House directed a payment delay until year-end without interest or penalties, while cancellation of the deferred taxes remains under consideration, ZN.UA reports.

US President Donald Trump signed an order expanding access to red-dyed diesel for use on public roads, ZN.UA reported on October 6, citing Reuters. The publication said he signed it the previous day and announced it at a rally in Nebraska.

According to ZN.UA, the White House instructed the Treasury secretary to defer federal excise tax payments on dyed diesel used on public roads until the end of the year, without interest or penalties. It also directed the secretary to consider ways to cancel the deferred tax liabilities; the report did not establish that cancellation had been approved.

Red-dyed diesel is normally intended for off-road uses, including agricultural and industrial equipment. An earlier RBC-Ukraine report, citing CNN, described the measure as allowing its use on highways without taxes or penalties until year-end. ZN.UA's account specifies a deferral of payment.

Trump said the measure would lower prices for goods, including food, according to RBC-Ukraine. That was his forecast; the cited reports did not document price reductions resulting from the order.
