Wicker urges Trump to accept Ukraine oil-strike deal for US targeting help

In brief

The senator said Zelenskyy had agreed to halt attacks on Russian oil facilities in exchange for assistance aimed at preventing Russian missile launches.

US Senate Armed Services Committee chairman Roger Wicker urged President Donald Trump to reach a deal with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to stop Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil facilities, UNIAN reported, citing The Hill.

Wicker said Zelenskyy had agreed to halt those attacks in exchange for US targeting assistance to help prevent Russian missile launches from Russian territory against Ukrainian civilians. The account attributed that position to Wicker and did not include separate confirmation from Zelenskyy.

The senator said Trump wanted the oil strikes stopped and argued that accepting the proposed exchange would lower US fuel prices. That was Wicker's forecast, rather than a demonstrated outcome.

UNIAN's report did not establish that a deal had been concluded, that the targeting assistance had been provided or that Ukraine had stopped the strikes.
