Ukrainian brigade says four soldiers relieved after 320 days on frontline

In brief

The troops walked 18 kilometres over three days to reach an evacuation point, according to the 65th Mechanised Brigade.

Four soldiers from Ukraine’s 65th Mechanised Brigade have been relieved after spending 320 days at frontline positions in the Orikhiv sector of Zaporizhzhia region, UNIAN reported on October 21, citing the brigade’s press service.

The brigade said rain and fog had provided an opportunity to rotate the troops. Earlier attempts had failed: one replacement group was killed before reaching the positions, while others suffered injuries and had to withdraw.

After leaving their positions, the four soldiers walked 18 kilometres over three days to a point where they could be picked up. They then travelled in armoured vehicles to fellow troops, where medics were waiting.

UNIAN’s report did not specify the date of the successful rotation. The account of the soldiers’ time at the positions and their evacuation came from the brigade.
